Things to note about this image and pray with:
There is a famous statue of Saint Joan in her hometown where an angel has appeared to her in armor announcing what God is called her to do. I have fashioned the armor Joan is wearing off of the armor of the angel. She has literally "put on" the armor of Christ.
The background landscape is from a photograph of her hometown.
The sword in her hand is from a replica of the exact sword she was said to carry.
The cloak over her shoulders is blue and has the fleur de lis pattern repeated throughout as a sign of our Lady's protection over Joan.
The expression on Joan's face is one of clear resolve. She was, as she said, "born to do this." And yet, we see her human side as well. She was known to weep for the dead after battle. I find this very moving and a place to contemplate my own inner resolve to do God's will and my personal human nature and limitations that bring me even closer to Him.
Saint Joan, pray for us.
