When my business partners and I set out to start Catholic.Store five and a half years ago, we had no idea what it would become - but we knew clearly what we didn’t want it to be. Years of working in the Church had shown us the models that didn’t work and the patterns that, despite good intentions, were harming great apostolates and missions.
Rather than let frustration define us, we channeled it into building something new. We created guiding principles that have carried us from founding Catholic.Store, to launching the Lion & Lamb book club, to helping Tiny Saints reach millions.
Our guiding principles are:
- Jesus is the CEO – We stay in the background and let Jesus and His Church be the focus.
- Family of God – We serve families, beginning with the families of our employees, knowing strong Catholic families are the foundation of a renewed Church.
- Integrity – We follow Jesus, who is truth incarnate, and strive to lift up that truth with charity in all we do.
- Subsidiarity – We trust each person’s God-given gifts and perspectives, encouraging open communication and independent initiative for the sake of the mission.
- Holy Rebellion – We pursue a countercultural renewal that isn’t afraid to confront what isn’t working, drawing on tradition and the wisdom of the past to innovate for the future.
From these principles came our mission:
We serve and equip families to live their faith joyfully.
At Catholic.Store, we do this by connecting customers with thousands of products created by Catholic small businesses, authors, families, and artisans - helping you grow in faith at home while making your homes a place of prayer, peace, and discipleship.
Because our faith is sacramental, everything we sell is real - created by real people through whom God works. You won’t find any AI-generated products in our store. When you shop with us, your purchase supports actual families and makers.
We also care for the people God has entrusted to us. We cover 100% of the healthcare for our employees and their families, fund annual spiritual retreats, and pray together for one another, for our vendor partners, and for our customers.
These principles aren’t groundbreaking; they’re basic Catholic convictions we believe every business should follow.
Most importantly, we’re deeply grateful to you for supporting this mission and helping us grow over the past five and a half years by shopping with us.
As we enter the busy season from Thanksgiving through Christmas, we hope you’ll continue to let us serve you by helping you find the very best new Catholic gifts for your family and loved ones.
We’re praying in gratitude for you this week and always,
Matt & the Catholic.Store Team
