In 1798 the practice of Catholicism was severely restricted in Vietnam, and incredible persecution ensued for the faithful living there. Many people fled into the jungle for refuge, but poor living conditions quickly led to illness. The community gathered at the foot of a tree every evening to pray the rosary, and it was there that Our Lady of La Vang appeared to her persecuted children. She told them to boil the leaves of a nearby plant to cure their illness. They followed her direction, and the illness disappeared from their community.

The Infant Jesus holds this healing leaf in His hands in my version of this apparition.

Đức Mẹ La Vang is very important to the Vietnamese people today. Let us continue to pray with and for the persecuted, displaced, and marginalized Christians throughout the world. May their adherence to the Faith not go unnoticed, but instead be used as salt for the earth.

Đức Mẹ La Vang, pray for us and for the whole world.
